The Ride Home from 2008 Agile Summer CampOn the final night I was the last one up and could not sleep. So I figured it would be a good time to gather up my gear, and if I still was not tired I would get a jump start on the ride home. As I was packing my bags it started raining. People had items strung all over outside the cabin. So I went around picking up food, coats, luggage, gear, and even a guitar. About the time I was got everything but everyone's chairs but away the rain stop. I finished packing up my bags and just as I was carrying them over to my bike it starting rain again. With my sleeping bag packed and getting wet I decided to put on my rain gear and go. I hoped the rain would let up but instead it just got thinker. I will never forget the when I finally got to a paved road the rain hitting the pavement was causing foggy haze that reminding me of a horror movie. The scare part was not being able to see the road or how deep the puddles were. I thought I would drive a couple hours and then get a hotel. I had to drive so slow that I did not get as far as I did wet, before giving up and getting a room. I wake up and to my amazement opened the door to sunshine and a white dove standing before my hotel room door. I was amazed to see the white dove until I realize it must have been a pet as it tried to dart into my room. I made haste on my freeway trip home. For better or worse my three trips this year seem to have removed my slight fear of motorcycling high speeds on the freeway. I use to take great lengths to avoid 65 mph highways, and now I find hard to obey their speed limit. |
